- The newest Powers do not store their DSP code in flashROM, so
- unless Motorola had the code to do 33.6 in their DSP beforehand, they will
- not be software upgradable to 33.6. Of course, judging from all the
- rumors that are flying around about upgrades, I get the impression that
- they DID put the code in their DSP.

-
- Only thing I could say for sure is that it will NOT be an upgrade
- to the Premier. The Premier is NOT a 33.6 version of the Power, it's a
- 33.6 version of the V.34R (or at least that's what the specs seem to
- indicate). I has a LOT more features then the Power does.

- I think you'll have to wait for Motorola to make an official
- statement to find the actual answer to that question. FWIW though, the
- current rumor I've heard is something like this: The Power can be
- upgraded to 33.6, but it would require replacing a chip. This chip is NOT
- the DSP/Controller chip, but something else (likley part of the DAA).
- The price for the upgrade that has been throw around, $35-$40, would seem
- to agree with this. I'd assume that if they were going to simply change
- the firmware (either through FlashROM in the Power or EPROM in the
- LifeStyle), they would either make the upgrade free, or charge less then
- $25 (to undercut USR). If they had to replace the DSP/controller chip
- that runs this modem, it would almost certainly cost more then $40, since
- those chips don't come cheap (even if they ARE made by a different
- devision of the company that makes the modems).
-
- All in all though, I'd say you're best bet is just to sit tight
- and wait until Motorola makes any sort of official announcement.
- Hopefully it won't be too long.
